West Shore RCMP: Single-vehicle collision involves driver with gunshot wounds

Early this morning December 30 — at about 3:09 a.m. — the West Shore RCMP responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision involving a white 2002 Hyundai Accent on Kangaroo Rd in Metchosin between Sooke Rd and Lindholm Rd.

Police as well as Metchosin Fire and Rescue and BC Emergency Health Services all responded to the scene, says RCMP in a news release this afternoon.

A white 2002 Hyundai Accent was located in the ditch on Kangaroo Rd with a 40-year old male driver who had sustained gunshot wounds to his body, says RCMP Media Relations Officer Cpl Nancy Saggar.

The man was taken to the hospital to receive care for serious life-threatening injuries. Police believe the shooting took place at another location and thereafter the man drove himself to the scene of the collision.

Seeking witnesses:

Police are seeking witnesses and asking anyone with information regarding this incident to please contact police by calling the West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.

Additionally, if anyone has dash camera footage from travelling in the area of Kangaroo Rd on December 30, between midnight and 4:00 a.m., they are asked by RCMP to check the footage and call police as you may have captured information that could assist police in this investigation.

No arrests at this time:

Police are continuing this investigation which is in its early stages. There have been no arrests made at this time. No further information will be released as the investigation is ongoing. Police believe this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.
