Thetis Lake Regional Park was closed for a short while on Thursday evening, July 10.
From about 9 pm to 10:30 pm West Shore RCMP dealt with a mental health crisis call at the park.
“Officers learned that the individual had gone into the park and was in possession of several firearms,” said Cpl Nancy Saggar, Media Relations Officer, West Shore RCMP.
The person was located at about 10:30 pm by police. “They were safely apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital for further care,” as stated by RCMP in a news release.
Numerous firearms were located and seized by police.
There were no injuries in this incident, Cpl Saggar says.
West Shore RCMP thanks their partnering agencies for their quick response and assistance including View Royal Fire, Victoria and Saanich Police Departments, and West Shore RCMP Police Dog Services.
