West Shore RCMP posted on social media at 8:01 pm this evening that they were responding to an incident in the 1100 block of Timber View in Langford.
That’s in the Bear Mountain area of the west shore municipality.
RCMP blocked off the area and asked residents in the neighbourhood to stay inside their homes.
Around 9:30 pm the police posted that the incident was over, adding that residents are safe in the surrounding area.
Followup on May 8:
At about 5:15 pm West Shore RCMP frontline officers and Mobile Integrated Crisis Response (MICR) Team which includes a police officer and psychiatric nurse responded to a call of a person experiencing a mental health crisis. They described the area as “near Timber View and Spirit Ridge Drive” in Langford.
“The individual was not cooperative with initial responding officers and MICR team, prompting a larger police response,” said Cpl Nancy Saggar, Media Relations Officer, West Shore RCMP, in a news release dated May 8.
“The area was contained by police for public safety,” said Saggar.
“Crisis negotiators negotiated with the individual for several hours who was eventually safely apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital for ongoing care,” today’s news release stated.
RCMP says they appreciated the public’s cooperation in staying away from the away while the police worked. That includes thanking neighbours for their patience, as they were asked to stay inside their home until the incident was cleared around 9:30 pm.
