UPDATE MARCH 2 [Source: West Shore RCMP]: The incident was police setting up containment around a home where a man “experiencing a mental health crisis” was armed with weapons and had barricaded himself within a residence. Containment was set up around the home. The Vancouver Island Emergency Response Team along with crisis negotiators were also called in to assist. The man was apprehended under the Mental Health Act around 6:20 pm and taken to hospital for medical care. RCMP thanks the public for their patience while the area was closed off to the public.

Today March 1 around 2:20 pm West Shore RCMP responded to an incident near the 500-block of Goldstream Ave in Langford.
“Police have set up containment surrounding a residence near this location and secured the surrounding area as a precaution,” said West Shore RCMP in a news release issued around 4:45 pm.
Officers are on scene. RCMP ask that members of the public refrain from attending the area.
“Additionally, please refrain from approaching and engaging with officers at this location as they are focused on securing the area and conducting their investigation,” said Cpl Nancy Saggar, Media Relations Officer, West Shore RCMP.
“As the area is contained police do not believe there is a risk to the public,” say RCMP.
Updates to come:
There is no estimated time of when the area will be cleared, police said at 4:45 pm.
West Shore RCMP will provide an update with regards to this incident on Monday March 2.
