On Saturday evening April 5 around 8:46 pm, West Shore RCMP Frontline and Traffic Unit officers responded to a collision involving a sedan and a motorcycle near the intersection of West Shore Parkway and Kettle Lake Drive in Langford.

Police learned that the driver of a 2020 Mazda 3 was turning left onto West Shore Parkway from Kettle Lake Drive when it collided with the motorcycle that was travelling east.

The motorcycle sustained extensive damage and the driver of the motorcycle was taken to the hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Mazda 3 who is identified as a 30-year-old Colwood man was arrested after police observed signs of alcohol impairment. An impaired operation causing bodily harm investigation ensued, said Cpl Nancy Saggar, Media Relations Officer, West Shore RCMP.

The Mazda was impounded and the suspect was released with an Appearance Notice for an upcoming court date and issued a 90-day driving prohibition along with a violation ticket for no drivers license.

This was not the only collision involving impaired driving in the West Shore this past weekend. Four other impaired drivers were taken off the road and issued 90-day driving prohibitions between Friday April 4 and the evening of Sunday April 6, says Cpl Saggar.

RCMP say that 53% of impaired related crashes in BC happen on a weekend.

“Our officers are committed to enhancing road safety and will continue to target impaired driving,” says Cpl Saggar.

“Please plan ahead for a safe and sober ride home,” said Cpl. Mike Jacobson, West Shore RCMP Traffic Unit.
