The new West Shore RCMP Officer in Charge is Inspector Terry Gillespie.
Gillespie will be promoted to the rank of Superintendent upon his arrival at the West Shore detachment.
“With extensive experience supporting communities across British Columbia, Inspector Gillespie brings strong leadership, operations experience and a commitment to strengthening public safety in the West Shore,” says West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer Cpl Nancy Saggar.
Inspector Gillespie is expected to take command early in 2026.
Gillespie has served in a range of communities and command positions in locations such as Haida Gwaii, Smithers, Kitimat-Stikine region, Terrace and Nanaimo. He holds a Diploma in Business Administration, has completed advanced studies in Police Leadership and Management at Dalhousie University, and various executive development programs through the RCMP.

“We thank Inspector Stephen Rose for his outstanding leadership as interim Officer in Charge and for ensuring the West Shore communities remain safe and well-served during the transition,” said Saggar in a media statement on November 13.
The previous West shore RCMP Superintendent was Todd Preston who retired earlier this year.
The West Shore RCMP serves Colwood, Highlands, Langford, Metchosin, View Royal, Songhees First Nation, and Esquimalt First Nation.
