Thursday, November 1 ~ WEST SHORE.
Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for this evening, Thursday November 1, for the south island / Greater Victoria area. “Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.”
The announcement includes that a Pacific frontal system is moving across the coast tonight. “In the wake of the front, westerly winds up to 70 km/h will develop before Friday morning over the Victoria region mainly near Juan de Fuca Strait. The winds are expected to be brief and will ease early Friday morning as the front moves further inland.”
As high winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break, Mainroad South Island has alerted motorists to this weather event as well. Downed power or utility lines can cause travel interruptions. Inclement weather can also contribute to a higher incidence of vehicle accidents.
“Mainroad crews will patrol the service area throughout this storm until the event passes, and the roadways are clear and back to normal,” says the road service provider.
Heavy rains have been falling in the west shore area for most of the afternoon.
Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.
