Weather impact: BC Ferries cancels some March 11 Vancouver-Victoria sailings

4 sailings cancelled, and more at risk of cancellation

To ensure the safety of BC Ferries passengers and crew, the following sailings between Swartz Bay (Victoria) – Tsawwassen (Vancouver) must be cancelled for today Wednesday, March 11, says BC Ferries in a news release today.

This is in response to an Environment Canada’s severe weather forecast for high winds in the Strait of Georgia.

Cancelled Sailings:
3:00 pm departing Swartz Bay
5:00 pm departing Tsawwassen
7:00 pm departing Swartz Bay
9:00 pm departing Tsawwassen

Sailings at Risk of Cancellation:
3:00 pm departing Tsawwassen
4:00 pm departing Swartz Bay
5:00 pm departing Swartz Bay
6:00 pm departing Tsawwassen
7:00 pm departing Tsawwassen
9:00 pm departing Swartz Bay

“We know you have important places to be,” says BC Ferries to their customers, noting high-traffic volumes.

If you have a booking on one of these cancelled sailings, you will hear from our Customer Service Centre to let you know if BC Ferries can fit you on an alternate sailing later today, or if your booking must be cancelled.

“In the case of a cancellation, we will refund your fees and/or fares. Click here for more information about bookings on cancelled sailings,” says BC Ferries in an advisory today.

Therefore they are adding additional round-trip sailings tonight March 11 to keep people moving and to assist with high traffic volumes as a result of these cancellations:

> 10:00 pm departing Tsawwassen

Alternative route:

Alternate service is available via our Horseshoe Bay (Vancouver) – Departure Bay (Nanaimo) route.

Due to the ongoing Horseshoe Bay Essential Infrastructure Program, all vehicle travel departing Horseshoe Bay must be booked and paid in advance up to 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure. Click here to view the schedule.
