Victoria resident wins Jan 6 Lotto Max half-million by playing the Extra

Victoria-area resident Douglas F has won $500,000 by playing the Extra in the January 6, 2026 Lotto Max draw. 

The winning ticket was purchased at the Petro Canada service station on Shelbourne Street at McKenzie Avenue in the Saanich area.

“I was at Mount Douglas Market and checked a few tickets,” the winner told BC Lottery Corporation (BCLC). “When I saw the $500,000 [on the self-scanner] I felt like a cartoon character. My eyes popped out of my head!”  

BCLC reports that the winner first called his wife to share the news. “She was so shocked, she was shaking.”  

Buying the Extra:

In 2025, BC lottery players have redeemed more than $51 million in winnings from the Extra and more than $248 million from Lotto Max. 

The Extra is a $1 add-on game available to purchase with Daily Grand, Lotto 6/49, BC/49 and Lotto Max at any BCLC lottery retailer or at PlayNow.com

Revenues to BC Government:

Revenue profits from BCLC lottery ticket sales go the BC government as general revenues for health care, education and other public services.
