The annual Santa Parade is happening this evening November 29 in downtown Victoria, starting at 5:30 pm.
The weather is dry but cold around 5°C at parade start time.
New route:
Santa Claus will light up Victoria as part of the 43rd Annual Peninsula Co-Op Santa Claus Parade.
There is a new downtown route for the parade.
- This year, the parade starts at Belleville and Government Streets with marshals gathering near the Legislative Building.
- The floats and live music will proceed with merriment down Wharf Street, turn right onto Johnson Street, left on Government Street, and end at Fisgard and Government streets.
The updated route improves safety and offers a better viewing experience, according to the City of Victoria. For many previous years, parade route was down a long stretch of Douglas Street.
Victoria Mayor:
Victoria Mayor Marianne Alto was in one of the first parade floats of the evening.
Livestream:
The live parade is being telecast and livestreamed from in front of the Fairmont Empress Hotel.
The telecast cut out (went dark) on some TVs around 6:15 pm (though the livestream continued) but came back on around 6:33 pm.
Many participants:
The lit-up floats and trucks in tonight’s Santa Claus Parade included a wide range of businesses, organizations and communities.
Donations:
The parade supports the Mustard Seed Street Church and Food Bank; volunteers will collect non-perishable food items or small cash donations at Government and Wharf Street in front of the Tourism Victoria Visitor Centre starting at 5 pm.

One of the main sponsors is Canadian Tire, as well as Country Grocer and Sunbelt Rentals, Totem Towing, and Westshore Dental Centre.
Hosts:
The parade was hosted live by CHEK TV broadcasters Paul Haysom and Stacy Ross.
