On a Monday morning with sub-zero temperatures outdoors, indoors the inauguration of Donald J Trump as the 47th President of the United States took place indoors in the US Capital Rotunda.
Trump took the oath of office at 12:01 pm Eastern (9:01 Pacific) today.
All living past-presidents arrived with formal introduction including Joe Biden, George Bush, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama.
JD Vance was sworn in as vice-president.

Former vice-president Mike Pence attended.
Tech giant CEOs were in attendance including Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg.
Melania Trump and Barron Trump attended.
“The golden age of America begins right now,” said Trump. “We will be the envy of every nation and we will not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of any longer,” said Trump, vowing to “put America first”.

Trump wants to “reverse betrayals” and “give people back their democracy and freedom”.
“America’s decline is over,” said Trump in his inauguration speech.
“The journey to reclaim our republic has not been an easy one,” said President Trump. “My life was saved for a reason. My life was saved to make America great again,” he said to much applause.
“January 20, 2025 is liberation day,” he said to more applause.
On this day, Trump will sign a series of historic executive orders as part of “a revolution of common sense”.
Southern border:
The new orders include declaring “a national emergency at our southern border”. All illegal entry immediately will be halted; millions of “criminal aliens” will be returned to places from which they came.
He will end the practice of ‘catch and release’ as a way to try and keep a lid on crime.
Trump said he will send troops to the southern border of the US to “repel the disastrous invasion of our country”.
He also will be designating the cartels as “foreign terrorist organizations”.
Threats, inflation:
Threats and invasions will be dealt with as a level not seen before, he said.
He wants to bring down inflation and prices.
Energy supply:
He is declaring a national energy emergency. “We will drill, baby, drill.”
“America will be a manufacturing nation once again.”
He is revoking the electric vehicle mandate as part of “saving the auto workers” and that industry. “You will be able to buy the car of your choice.”

Trade and tariffs:
The overall of the trade system to protect american workers and families. We will tariff and tax other countries to enrich our citizens. The IRS will collect all tariffs, duties and revenues.” A department of “government efficiency” will be launched.
Free speech:
Trump will sign an executive order to “stop all government censorship and bring back free speech to America”.

Race and gender:
He will issue an order to create a “colour-blind and merit-based” society.
“There are only two genders: male and female,” he said to resounding applause.

Military:
With regard to the military, Trump aims to see that America will battles and avoid getting into more battles and any wars.
He wants to be “a peacemaker and unifier”.
Geography:
The Gulf of Mexico will be renamed the Gulf of America.
“We gave the Panama Canal to Panama not to China, and we’re taking it back.”

The Stars and Stripes will be planted on the planet Mars, said Trump to the great delight of Space X founder Elon Musk.
Neither Greenland nor Canada were mentioned by name in the speech.
Canada’s tariff response:
Canada is readying this country’s response to the threat of tariffs that Trump has been making for several weeks.
So far, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has issued a three-part tariff strategy and has convened a Council on Canada-US relations.
Today Trudeau hosted a cabinet retreat in Quebec to observe and discuss the Trump speech.
Canada’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry François-Philippe Champagne attended the inaugural event this morning as did Alberta Premier Danielle Smith.
