The Urban Food Resilience Initiatives Society (UFRIS) will be holding their 2025 Annual General Meeting on Sunday November 16, 2025.
The meeting will be held from 1 to 2:30 pm at the Starbucks at Jacklin Road and Langford Parkway.
This is the second year for UFRIS; the non-profit society was set up in 2024.
The Porcher Park project:
In 2025 UFRIS was selected by the City of Langford to launch and operate the city’s first community garden, located within Porcher Park in downtown Langford.

The garden offers 31 growing boxes for local families who do not have yard space to grow food at home.
Some food is donated to Living Edge Westshore Food Market (a food bank that is open to everyone, no registration required).
Mission across municipalities:
UFRIS has several large-scale projects as part of their urban food resilience mission, including that municipalities require food-growing capacity in all development permits, and that the seismic region be prepared with fresh frozen food in storage units.
Food for growing families:
A very important goal to support pregnant women with additional fresh nutritious food is an initiative being launched by UFRIS in 2026.
