On February 22, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and US President Donald Trump spoke on the phone about the war in Ukraine.

February 22, 2025 was marked in many countries around the world as the third anniversary of Ukraine being pulled into a war that was started by the aggression initiated by Russia.

The Trudeau/Trump phone call came ahead of the virtual G7 meeting on February 24 — the same day that Trump said the tariffs at 25% across the board are still coming on March 4.

Trudeau also updated the President about shared progress at the Canada-U.S. border regarding combating fentanyl, including the work of Canada’s new Fentanyl Czar and Canada’s listing of cartels.

The Prime Minister noted that seizures of fentanyl at the border have decreased.

Other Ukraine-theme speeches:

A speech was delivered on February 24 by BC Premier David Eby to recognize the third year of Ukraine’s resistance against Russia’s war against them.

Resignations in the wake of Trump:

Politicians who are otherwise evidently committed to serving their populations have been resigning in the face of having to deal with Trump for four years.

That list includes, so far: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Prince Edward Island Premier Dennis King, and now today also Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey.
