The grand opening of the Sarah Beckett Memorial Park and the expanded Westhills Stadium in Langford on Saturday August 24 will generate traffic congestion in the area. After that opening is also a Pacific FC game.
The main gates to the stadium are on the Langford Parkway side (near the Westhills Arena and Langford Lanes).
There is another stadium entrance on the Glen Lake Road side (also the location of the new Sarah Beckett Memorial Playground), but where a road closure will be in effect (12 noon to 6 pm) from the Belmont Secondary School driveway down to Jenkins Road.
The event times on Saturday include:
- 11 am – Family playtime in City Centre Park, ahead of the playground opening
- 1 pm – Gates to the Sarah Beckett Memorial Park/Playground will be officially opened. | Gates to the stadium (for beer garden, vendor area and seating) will open.
- 2 pm – Official Re-Opening of the Expanded Westhills Stadium. Including speeches by Premier of BC and Mayor of Langford.
- 3 pm – Pacific FC soccer match vs Valour FC
Here is a map showing stadium access and parking:
The expanded Westhills Stadium now has a 6,000-seat capacity. There are now more permanent washrooms, and fewer porta-potties.
Details about the seating expansion are on page 1 in the August 16, 2019 weekend edition of West Shore Voice News.
Construction of the Sarah Beckett Memorial Playground is being completed this week. The surface is rubberized, for the safety of children playing there.
