Overnight lane closures are planned for the George Massey Tunnel in the Vancouver lower mainland.
The four-lane highway is a key part of the route from the airport and ferry terminal to/from downtown Vancouver and beyond — connecting Richmond and Delta beneath the Fraser River.
Crews will be undertaking maintenance work as part of ongoing preparations for construction of the new tunnel.
The new eight-lane tunnel will be about 40 metres upstream of the existing tunnel, which will stay open until the new tunnel is ready.
Starting Sunday January 11:
Drivers are advised that nighttime lane closures will occur in the George Massey Tunnel starting at 10 pm on Sunday, January 11, 2026.
The overnight single-lane closures will continue through March 2026.

Schedule:
Nightly lane closures will be in effect for as many as seven days a week, on the following schedule:
- Monday-Friday: 10 pm to 5 am (northbound); 10 pm to 6 am (southbound)
- Saturday-Sunday: 10 pm to 7 am (northbound and southbound)
Continued traffic flow:
Travel in both directions will be maintained at all times through the tunnel, says the Ministry of Transportation and Transit.
Signs will be posted and traffic-control crews will be on site.
Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits and pay attention to all signage and the direction of traffic-control personnel.
