Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre drew a large crowd for a town hall in Duncan last weekend.
The January 10 event saw over 1,400 people come out for the Safe and Affordable Communities Town Hall say organizers – including those who were in the hall as well as overflow outside the hall.
The event was co-hosted by Jeff Kibble, MP (Cowichan-Malahat-Langford) and Tamara Kronis, MP (Nanaimo-Ladysmith).
Issues that impact the North Cowichan area and both ridings include: affordability, community safety, the mill closure, potential fishery closures, and land-use decisions.
“As your Member of Parliament, my job is to carry your voices to Ottawa,” said Kibble in a news release today. People came out to have their voices heard and share their ideas.

“The Leader of the Official Opposition, Pierre Poilievre, was here in the riding to listen to, speak directly with residents, and share practical, positive solutions during a strong Q&A,” said Kibble.
Some of the questions were challenging, said Kibble. Not everyone was in full agreement with the party leader.
Kibble was impressed at how Poilievre answered questions for 1.5 hours and spent a couple of hours in a photo line until everyone who wanted a photo of themselves with the party leader were happy.
Kibble listening:
Kibble thanks the volunteers who set up and supported the event.
“The people of Cowichan–Malahat–Langford are strong and resilient. I will continue to hold the government to account and I will always listen to and advocate for our amazing riding,” says Kibble who has two constituency offices in the large riding (one in Duncan, one in Langford).
MVI on the day:
A woman who was being driven by her son in an SUV to attend the town hall in Duncan ended up in a vehicle crash on Highway 1 while heading north from Victoria to attend the event.
This week, Kibble visited the woman and her son in hospital. The MP received from the woman a letter that she had wanted to deliver to Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre.
Poilievre will be phoning the woman to see how she is recovering from the accident, says Kibble.
House of Commons:
The House of Commons will be back in session starting Monday January 26.
During January 29 to 31, Poilievre will be undergoing a leadership review at the Conservative Party of Canada convention in Calgary.
