Soil plays an important role in supporting agricultural productivity, food security and dealing with the challenges of climate change.

Alistair MacGregor, MP (Cowichan-Malahat-Langford) will be hosting a virtual public town hall to highlight his Private Member’s Bill C-290 and the role that soil management plays in sustaining food supply in this country.

The virtual town hall will be held through Zoom. Participants can find instructions on how to participate through MP MacGregor’s website. The event will also be streamed live on MP MacGregor’s Facebook page from 5:30 to 7:00pm on Thursday evening, July 15. MacGregor is encouraging all interested constituents to attend and participate.

“Healthy soils are the foundation of sustainable food production, enhanced biodiversity and cleaner air and water for present and future generations,” said MacGregor. “Canadians from coast-to coast-to-coast depend on our ability to produce good food to keep themselves, their families and the environment healthy. I’m excited to meet with my constituents to hear what they have to say on this issue and ensure their voices are heard in Ottawa.”

An expert panel from across the country will participate in the town hall including Gabrielle Bastien, Founder and Co-Director of Regeneration Canada based in Montreal; Brett Israel from 3Gen Organics Family Farm in Wallenstein, Ontario who is involved with Farmers for Climate Solutions; and Aaron Grant from Morgan Creek Farm in Nanaimo, who practices regenerative agriculture techniques here on Vancouver Island.

During the town hall, constituents are encouraged share feedback and ask questions for the town hall panelists.

MacGregor and his wife and family live on a small food-growing farm in the Cowichan Valley area.
