Hockey equipment was stolen from the Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre in Colwood, says West Shore RCMP.
West Shore RCMP are currently investigating the theft that they say took place between September 28 and October 19.
The stolen items include 10 pairs of ice skates, 10 team jackets displaying Ravens team logo, two sets of goalie gear (some of it specialized for left-hand players), two pairs of goalie skates, with an estimated total value of approximately $3,500.
The equipment belonged to the South Island Ravens, a community hockey team that provides players of all ages with developmental disabilities the opportunity to participate in inclusive sport and teamwork.
The equipment was stored within the rec centre owned and operated by West Shore Parks and Recreation (WSPR). S

The equipment was stored in a room under lock and key. There are security cameras along the hallway lined with locked storage rooms.

Both WSPR and Westshore RCMP have gone over hours of security camera footage, says WSPR communications rep Simon Miles.

“This theft is heartbreaking for our players and families,” said Gus Ascroft, general manager and co-founder of the South Island Ravens Hockey Club.
A donation funding line has been set up to take donations to help replace the stolen gear.
Support and inclusion:
“Our program is built on community support and inclusion — losing this gear affects our ability to get players on the ice,” Ascroft said an RCMP news release.
The Ravens are given a significant discount on arena ice-time bookings.
