The 2025 Fall Season concert by the Sooke Philharmonic Orchestra will be held on Sunday November 2 at Sooke Community Hall, 2037 Shields Road in downtown Sooke.

The Scriabin piano concerto, composed in 1896, is a passionate and romantic work with soaring piano runs and beautiful, haunting harmonies.  It has been rediscovered after years of neglect.

Also on the program is the Nabucco Overture by Verdi — one of Verdi’s best-known operas and the Overture includes its famous themes including the Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves.

Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony is a classic. The opening bars are well recognized by all Classical music fans. The Fifth is exciting, dramatic and never grows old, says Sooke Philharmonic.  Come and share the joy and passion!

Longstanding organization in Sooke;

This is the Sooke Philharmonic’s 28th season.

Sooke Philharmonic was founded by Norman Nelson in 1997, with the first concert taking place in 1998.

As well as building the orchestra, Nelson went on to establish the annual Sooke Chamber Music Workshop and what is now known as the Jenny and Norman Nelson Concerto Competition, open to instrumental students aged 25 or less, studying on Vancouver Island or the Gulf Islands.

Nelson also set up the Sooke Harmony Project, providing help and instruction for the young musicians of the next generation. Norman Nelson passed away in 2018 but his musical legacy lives on in our community.
