There were a lot of lightning strikes over the Labour Day long weekend — 6,047 across BC in the last five days.
Lightning ignites the majority of wildfires in BC — currently that is 76% of the total 168 wildfires across the province.

The impact of human activity caused 23 of the currently active wildfires (14%) across BC, with the cause as yet undetermined for 17% of the fires.

Of the 168 wildfires active in the province today, 19 started in the last 24 hours as dry weather and drought conditions continue in most parts of the province.
Of the 168 active wildfires in BC, 38% are listed as out of control, with 17% being held and 46% under control.

Coastal Fire Centre:
Of the 168 fires in BC today, 42 (or 25% of the province’s wildfires) are in the Coastal Fire Centre That’s up from 36 wildfires in the Coastal Fire Centre on August 30.
Of the current fires in the Coastal Fire Centre, 38% are out of control, 26% are being held, and 36% are under control.
Current fire listings in the Coastal Fire Centre include the Bugaboos Wildfire, Sailor Bar Wildfire, and Tsetzi Lake Wildfire.
Hot weather and drought:
The wildfire season continues during conditions of hot summer weather and a continued drought.
A campfire ban remains in effect in The Coastal Fire Centre, as well as the Cariboo Fire Centre and the Kamloops Fire Centre. [See Campfire and other Open Fire restrictions]
No fires of note:
Currently there are no fires of note anywhere in BC.
Evacuation orders and alerts:
As of September 2 there are four evacuation orders and six alerts across BC.
Resources in use:
As of today there are 590 firefighting personnel assigned across BC, under two incident management teams.
