Long-time Juan de Fuca Electoral Area Director Mike Hicks — who also chaired the SEAPARC Commission for many years, was recognized this week by SEAPARC for his years of service.
“The SEAPARC Commission and staff would like to extend their gratitude to Mike Hicks, who served as a Commission Member for 14 years and ended his term this past year. Mike was instrumental in key projects including acquisition of the DeMamiel Creek Golf Course, bike park improvements, and most recently the weight room and fitness expansion.”
Manager of the SEAPARC Leisure Complex, Melanie Alsdorf, presented Mike with a gift on December 9, 2022 in recognition of his years of service.
The was a 2023 season SEAPARC certificate for the DaMamiel Golf Course that he helped to launch several years ago. About the gift: “I really love it,” says Hicks.
Forward from here:
“We look forward to seeing you on the (golf) course next season Mike!,” said Alsdorf in a Facebook post.
Hicks did not stand for re-election as JDF Electoral Area director (within the Capital Regional District) in the October 15, 2022 election.
For many years, Hicks has been instrumental in salmon preservation in the west shore region, including as a member of Sooke Salmon Enhancement Society and working on the BC wild salmon strategy.
Hicks has been a long-time supporter of the recently retired Premier John Horgan (who continues as the MLA for Langford-Juan de Fuca).
SEAPARC tax base:
The SEAPARC Commission (which operates the Capital Regional District’s SEAPARC Leisure Complex) levies taxes from property owners in the District of Sooke and the Juan de Fuca Electoral Area.
Saving up some of those levies over the years enabled the most recent facility expansion (including the weight room and new multi-purpose rooms), together with a CRD-backed loan.
