There will be weekday traffic impacts in the Tillicum Burnside area during underground utility upgrades.

Construction began yesterday to replace the existing storm drains and sanitary sewer drains on Wascana Street, Maddock Avenue West and surrounding side streets.

The project will be completed in two construction phases:

  • First phase – November 7, 2025 through March 27,2026 to replace storm and sanitary drains. Weekdays 8 am to 4 pm.
  • Second phase – 2026 (dates tba) – to replace watermains.

There will be traffic impacts including road closures and altered traffic patterns. Pedestrian, local traffic and emergency vehicle access will be maintained.

The District of Saanich asks residents to please follow all signage and directions in the area, and plan alternate routes when possible.

Traffic impacts:

  • Road closure: in effect for Wascana Street (from Maddock Avenue West to Burnside Road West) during construction hours. Resident access will be maintained during construction. Please follow signage and direction of traffic personnel.
  • Single lane alternating traffic: in effect for Maddock Avenue West, Qu’appelle Street and Davin Street during construction.
  • After-hours and weekend access: Wascana Street, Maddock Avenue West, Qu’Appelle Street and Davin Street will be open overnight (4 pm to 8 am on weekdays) and 24/7 on weekends.

The District of Ssanich says this project is part of the municipality’s commitment to improving local infrastructure.
