“Thank you to everyone who supported me in this journey,” said BC Conservative candidate Mike Harris to his campaign team and supporters in Langford-Highlands.
“While we didn’t get the result we hoped for, I’m proud of the progress we made. I’m committed to standing up for our community and holding the government accountable every step of the way. This is just the beginning,” says Harris in a social media post yesterday, the day after October 19, 2024 BC provincial election results.
Two elections in a row:
In the 2024 election race Harris was up against incumbent BC NDP candidate Ravi Parmar whose electoral success stands on a bedrock that former BC Premier John Horgan established in the riding.
That result pattern was a repeat of the June 2023 by-election: Parmar with a strong win but Harris showing a strong second-place finish.
Harris has been a resident of Langford for four years; he drew out the local Langford business community vote on October 19. Harris says he has boosted his local base in this campaign.
Election night:
About 60 people dropped by to the Harris campaign office in Langford last night as election results rolled in on a big-screen TV.
Elections BC shows these October 19, 2024 election night results for Langford-Highlands:
- Ravi Parmar BC NDP: 10,940 votes (51.45%)
- Mike Harris BC Conservative: 8,038 votes (37.80%)
- Erin Cassels BC Green: 2,286 votes (10.75%)
Rustad connection:
Harris is a key player in the Rustad conservative movement in BC.
Rustad made a quick campaign visit to the Mike Harris campaign office on October 10.
Final election results:
Final ballot counts for all 93 ridings across BC will be done by Elections BC during October 26 to 28, 2024, after all the out-of-area ballots cast at ridings around the province are received in their home ridings.
No substantive change of result is expected in Langford-Highlands. Only two electoral areas are undergoing official recounts: Juan de Fuca-Malahat and Surrey City Centre.
