Routine traffic stop leads to arrest for drug trafficking

Arrest by West Shore RCMP for drug trafficking, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and a prohibited weapon.

A traffic stop on Sunday evening, August 17, in Langford — to deal with a burnt-out taillight — resulted in an arrest for drug trafficking.

A West Shore RCMP Frontline officer conducted the routine patrol conducted a traffic stop upon seeing a GMC Yukon with the taillight was burnt out.

Inside the vehicle the officer observed open liquor so an impaired driving investigation was pursued. 

In a search of the vehicle, officers seized a small amount of suspected OxyContin pills, drug trafficking paraphernalia, a firearm, and brass knuckles.

Arrest:

The driver identified as a 50-year-old man was determined to be sober. He he was arrested in relation to drug trafficking, unauthorized possession of the firearm, and a prohibited weapon.

Investigation:

The investigation is ongoing, and the suspect was later released on an Undertaking with an upcoming court appearance.
