All CAF members will receive a pay raise:

  • 8% for Colonel and above.
  • 13% for Lieutenant Colonel and below.
  • 20% starting pay and raise for privates.

The pay raises will be retroactive to April 1, 2025. The increases are on top of base pay.

New military service pay benefits will be specifically tied to time and service.

Additional supports for members preparing for combat, in addition for intense commitments.

Posting allowances will be fairer, said Carney, recognizing how many times that people’s lives are uprooted to support the country.

Critical trades will be supported as well, to keep the CAF “ready at all times”.

The hope is that recruitment and retention will be improved with these moves.

“Service is a lived reality,” said Carney today. Behind every member in uniform there is a family right there behind them, he highlighted.

“This is a generation change in pay for the Canadian Armed Forces,” said Carney in answering media questions today. “It’s a generational shift and we’re proud of it.”

Economy is part of the focus:

“As we build our military we’ll build our economy as well,” said Carney, who has been promoting a ‘one strong economy’ (not 13) since his election campaign earlier this year.

The military will likely be needed in greater numbers for things like new ocean ports in the Arctic.
