King Charles III received Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney for a private meeting at Buckingham Palace today.
Private meetings are just that, usually without much if any revelation about what is discussed.

However, top issues concerning the UK and Canada certainly do include Canada’s sovereignty in the face of economic attack from the United States of America, issues of military concern regarding the Middle East, the need for continued alliance regarding financial and defence support for Ukraine in its endurance of attack by Russia, and broad global issues of security including the impacts of artificial intelligence.

Carney greeted by new High Commissioner:
When Carney arrived in London yesterday he was greeted by Canada’s new High Commissioner for Canada in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland former Liberal cabinet minister Bill Blair, who started in the job just last week — telling media that he ‘got his credentials’ on Wednesday (March 11).
Blair told media yesterday that this is Carney’s third visit to the UK as prime minister. Carney became prime minister in March 2025.
Of course, Carney was resident in the UK during 2013-2020 when he was the Governor of the Bank of England.
Birthday and time off:
Today March 16 is Prime Minister Mark Carney’s 61st birthday. Carney’s wife Diana Fox Carney is British by birth (now a dual British-Canadian citizen) and has relatives in the UK.
Carney is now taking a few days off though he told media last week that he will remain ‘as connected as always’.
