This is Day 4 of the federal election campaign. Each morning Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre posts early in the day in social media. This somehow sets the tone for at least the first part of the day.
In political campaigns even a day can be long. Things can change and become breaking news at any time on any day in a high-stakes campaign.
This 45th federal election is considered to be possibly more consequential than some elections of the last few decades. Primarily that has to do with how Canada’s next prime and government will deal with the economic onslaught coming from the United States this year.
Seniors would have more options:
Today’s campaign pitch from Poilievre offers some potential flexibility for seniors.
- Allow working seniors to earn up to $34,000 tax free which is $10,000 more than now. (This also helps where seniors also receive provincial benefits like rental support which adds to their income.)
- Allowing seniors the option of keeping savings growing in RRSPs until age 73, up from age 71. (Many seniors are working longer because they have to, given the cost of living increases that have been unrelenting since the pandemic).
- Protect OAS, GIS & CPP by keeping the retirement age at 65. (The government already increases OAS & GIS each year based on the CPI index).
