With the excitement of people getting out and about in these first few days of Phase 2 of the COVID-19 pandemic in BC, many customers and fans of Pilgrim Coffee House have been phoning to the cafe to find out if things will now change.

On the family-owned coffee shop had closed their doors for a few days on March 23 to sort out how to respond to the physical distancing and surface cleaning public health requirements during the initial phase of the pandemic. They reopened on March 28 with a plan: take-out only.

Hours of operation stay the same:

Today May 20 — on just the second day of Phase 2 of Restart BC — the news is ‘steady as she goes’. Pilgrim will keep to their current days and hours of operation, which is Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 3 pm for take-out only.

There will still be no seating at the pre-pandemic tables; chairs are turned over on top of the tables.

Co-owners Jan and John Krottner will continue as they have been doing: “We’re doing lots of cleaning and sanitizing, including the coffee machine,” says Jan. “We’re respecting distance,” she says, with regard to the requirement for physical distancing as mandated by the Provincial Health Officer.

Revenues have been impacted:

The main thing that could very well change is the bottom line. For the better.

When they first opened as take-out only on March 28, Pilgrim Coffee House saw revenues down by 70%. The next week it eased up slightly to 60% of normal revenues. Now, as more people feel more comfortable being out of their homes and doing things in the community, their business revenues may now begin to approach something closer to normal.

Handy location in central Colwood:

Pilgrim Coffee House is located at 105-1910 Sooke Road and has always been a busy pit stop for people looking for coffee, good food, and a relaxing environment where everyone feels welcome.
