Low-income families who are in need of pet supplies and services year-round especially appreciate public generosity in the December holiday season.
The Pet Food Bank & Feral Cat Rehabilitation Center (aka SAFARS) helps provide cat food and dog food to pet owners in need. The organization also provides funding for spay and neuter services as they can.
A couple of pet stores (Mr Pet’s at Tillicum Mall in Saanich and Creature Pets in Victoria) provide big bags of dog food twice a year and other items on a regular basis. The biggest need right now is cat food, especially kibble.
Donations of cat food and dog food can be taken to the collection bins at Wiskers & Waggs pet store in Sooke, at Village Food Markets in Sooke, and outside the front of 2075 Otter Point Road (next to Dumont Tire).
SAFARS will rescue cats that are abandoned and also find foster homes for cats whose owners may not be able to take care of them anymore.
Donations to help SAFARS with the cost of paying for spay/neuter services can be e-transferred to safars@hotmail.com .
Another way to help is by dropping off your refundable plastic bottles to the bins at 2075 Otter Point Road. The amounts add up, and really help SAFARS do their work in the community.
