On Tuesday July 28 around 11:30 pm the West Shore RCMP received a report from a homeowner who witnessed a man attempting to steal patio furniture off her front porch near the 600-block of Goldstream Avenue in Langford. The homeowner startled the would-be thief and was able to provide police with a detailed description of the suspect.

Minutes later the West Shore RCMP received another report of a theft. A homeowner from the 600-block of Fairway Avenue (just a few blocks from the first theft complaint), called in and advised a man was attempting to steal his bicycle.

West Shore RCMP frontline officers were on scene right away and located the suspect who was arrested. The suspect was identified as a 22-year-old man who resides in Victoria.

Upon arrest, police searched the suspect and located two pieces of stolen identification. The identification belonged to a resident of View Royal who had filed a police report earlier in the day advising his identification had been stolen from his parked vehicle which was left unlocked.

The suspect remains in custody and is set to appear in court today. He is facing numerous charges including theft, possession of stolen property and breaching court ordered conditions. Police determined he was also breaching a court order curfew at the time of his arrest.

“We want to thank the homeowners for being vigilant and calling the police right away. The quick call to police along with the detailed description of the suspect helped us locate this suspect right away,” said Cst. Saggar West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer.
