Wrapping up this first year of the Canadian Premier League, the pro soccer organization will hold the first awards ceremony on November 26 in Toronto.
Five distinctions will be handed out at the 2019 Canadian Premier League Awards Ceremony – four for players, one for a coach. A total of 11 individuals have been nominated.
Among the three nominees in the ‘Best Under 21 Canadian Player of the Year’ category is 21-year-old Terran Campbell of the Pacific FC team that plays their home games at Westhills Stadium in Langford.
Emerging from not being too well known at the season start to being fully recognized for his attentiveness to scoring opportunities even before the end of the season, through the 2019 season Campbell forged an impressive mark on observers of the game.
A few times after spring and summer home games, the rank and file of local sports media suggested Campbell as the Most Valuable Player after his goals that seemed to ‘come out of nowhere’.
Campbell claimed 11 goals in his over 80 minutes of play in 16 of 18 games, collecting a staggering 2,436 minutes.
In the Coach of the Year category there are three nominees: Bobby Smyrniotis (Forge FC), Tommy Wheeldon Jr. (Cavalry FC), and Jimmy Brennan (York9 FC).
