A house fire in Sooke today January 18 was handled quickly by firefighters. Under a mutual aid agreement, Sooke Fire Rescue was supported with members from Otter Point, Metchosin and East Sooke fire departments.
At the home in the older Eakin Drive area not far from Fire Hall #1, the fire was contained mainly to the garage with some minor extension in to the attic space, said Sooke Fire Chief Kenn Mount.
The fire was reported at 12:28 pm and crews arrived on scene at 12:33 pm.
Two people and their cat were home at the time. All got out safely.
In total there were 25 firefighters on scene, with four of those being career members from Sooke supporting the incident in senior operational roles. Ambulance and RCMP were also on scene.
Equipment used at the event were Sooke Fire Engine 1, Engine 3, Ladder 1 and utility 1 along with an Otter Point engine. Metchosin and East Sooke served as backup resources.
Emergency social services were provided as required. The house was insured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, says Chief Mount.
