New Vancouver Island temperature records Aug 23 & 24

Hot weather continues this week, cooler starting Thursday.

Last weekend saw extremely hot weather that set new temperature records on Vancouver Island.

Saturday August 23 was the hottest August 23 on record at the Victoria International Airport at 31.1°C. That beat the 1916 record of 30.0°C.

For central island locations:

  • Comox record of 30.3°C, beating the 1966 record of 30.0°C
  • Qualicum Beach record of 29.6°C, beating the 1966 record of 27.8°C
  • Malahat record of 31.9°C, beating the 1987 record of 30.5°C.

New August 24 records:

These new records were set on Sunday:

  • Malahat area at 30.2°C, which beat out the 2022 record of 29.8°C
  • Campbell River at 32.2°C, beating the 2016 record of 32.0°C.

Tied for existing records on Aug 24:

  • Courtenay 30.3°C
  • Comox 30.3°C
  • Nanaimo 33.3°C

Cooling down this week:

Yesterday the high for Greater Victoria was 26.3°C (at 2 pm) and today August 26 the expected high is 25°C, with a high of 24°C forecast for Wednesday August 27.

Temperatures are expected to be cooler and more seasonal starting Thursday (highs of 22°C generally through to Sunday August 31).
