Netflix has released a statement about their economic activity in Canada.
“We’ve been deeply committed to Canada since Netflix first launched here in 2010,” the entertainment distributor said in a news release on Thursday.
“Today, we have offices in Toronto and Vancouver and we’ve filmed in 40+ Canadian cities across 10 provinces and territories between 2021 and 2024,” the company said.
Netflix says that it makes a significant impact on the film and TV industry and the Canadian economy, stating their contribution to the Canadian economy as $6.5 billion Cdn between 2021 and 2024.
“Our investments extend to the production of Canadian titles like North of North, Wayward, Bet, Code 8 Part II, and Blown Away, as well as international shows like Avatar: The Last Airbender, Ginny & Georgia, My Life with the Walter Boys and Virgin River.“
Netflix identifies an audience of more than 700 million people in more than 190 countries around the world.
Jobs:
“We’re proud to have employed over 35,000 cast and crew members and partnered with more than 40 Canadian production companies from 2021 to 2024. We’ve also worked alongside over 90 Canadian VFX vendors on acclaimed series like Stranger Things and Wednesday,” says Netflix in their October 23 statement.
Film locations:
In 2021, Netflix launched Netflix in Your Neighbourhood, a website dedicated to highlighting filming locations across the country of their members’ favourite series and films.
Fans can now find locations for more than 40 titles on the site, spanning nine provinces and territories.
Training and development:
Beyond productions, Netflix has invested over $35 million Cdn in training and development initiatives, supporting more than 1,400 Canadian creatives and fostering diversity and growth in the industry.
“We’re excited to continue bringing Canadian stories to life, with exceptional Canadian talent,” says Netflix.
