Alistair MacGregor (NDP incumbent Candidate for Cowichan-Malahat-Langford) joined about 70 excited supporters waving signs and wearing orange to welcome federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh to Cowichan this morning.

The quick pit stop of the Singh bus was held across the street from MacGregor’s campaign office in Duncan.

“People are worried about what the future holds for their children and grandchildren,” said MacGregor. “The climate crisis, stagnating wages, sky-rocketing housing costs, unaffordable child care, crushing student debt, and ballooning prescription drug prices are keeping people up at night.”

“The NDP has a plan to make life more affordable for everyday people,” said Singh. “We will invest in head-to-toe health care, and $10 billion annually in quality prescription drug coverage so everyone has access to the prescriptions they need. We’ll tackle the housing crisis and build 500,000 units of quality, affordable housing, and making sure families have access to quality, affordable child care when they need it.”

“The priorities of successive Liberal and Conservative governments have stripped away the services and supports that people count on, leaving everyday Canadians struggling,” said MacGregor. “We can invest in the future of our dreams; where no one is left behind.”

Singh arrived on Vancouver Island yesterday, making stops in Campbell River, Courtenay, Nanaimo, Ladysmith and now Duncan, followed by Victoria.

After addressing the crowd of supporters, MacGregor joined Singh on his national tour bus. The pair of them headed down to Victoria to participate in the Climate Strike at noon at the BC Legislature today Friday September 27, and then to a rally at the Victoria Conference Centre this evening.
