This past weekend — on Saturday June 13 — the West Shore Municipal Traffic Unit responded at around 2:50 pm to a collision involving a single motorcycle.

The collision took place on the Malahat near Okotoks. The motorcycle was in the north bound lane and collided with the median, it is stated in an RCMP news release.

The 53-year-old man who was driving the motorcycle was deceased on scene. The 58-year-old passenger on the motorcycle was taken to the hospital and remains in critical condition. Both were residents of Vancouver Island.

“RCMP traffic reconstructionist also attended the scene,” says West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer Cst Nancy Saggar. “The north bound lane was closed for a number of hours while crews worked to clear the scene,” she says. At 6:50 p.m. both lanes were opened.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation, says Cst Saggar.
