A single measles case in Kamloops has been confirmed by Interior Health. [See June 24, 2025 Interior Health news release]
Contact tracing is happening including following up with individuals who are known to have been exposed to the case.
This is the frist confirmed measles case in the Interior in 2025. However, on June 17, Interior Health said that one person who visited a McDonalds Restaurant at 2110 Middletown Place in Sparwood (on June 8) was confirmed to have had measles.
Risk to the broader public is considered low, says Interior Health.
Areas of exposure as advised by Interior Health:
- Mon June 16, 2025: Denny’s Restaurant, 570 Columbia St, Kamloops, BC [exposure between 12 noon and 2:45 pm]
- Mon June 16, 2025: Aberdeen Mall, 1320 Trans Canada Hwy, Kamloops, BC [exposure between 1 to 4 pm]

Symptoms:
The symptoms of a measles infection include fever, cough, runny nose and red and inflamed eyes. That is followed by a rash which starts on the face and neck then spreads to the chest, arms and legs and lasts for three days.
If you think you have measles, call ahead to your doctor’s office or hospital so that plans can be made to prevent other people from potential exposure.
For more details about measles visit the BC Centre for Disease Control Measles information page.
Immunization:
Anyone born in 1970 or later who has not had two doses of the measles vaccine should get a booster dose of measles vaccine (ideally within three days of being exposed).
