A wildfire at Manson Creek southwest of Nanaimo was discovered yesterday (Sunday August 24) but is already held, according to BC Wildfire Service.

At 8.6 hectares, the footprint of the Manson Creek Wildfire (Fire Number V71621 / Coastal Fire Centre) is relatively small in size compared to other wildfires in the area this month:
- Wesley Ridge Wildfire (Aug 1 to 12) – held at 590 hectares
- Mount Underwood Wildfire (Aug 11 to 24) – held at 3,548 hectares
There were 25 personnel at the fire on Monday, with air support being used as needed, reported BC Wildfire Service officials.
The new wildfire occurred as several communities on central Vancouver Island set new heat records over the weekend.
