Remembrance Day is held each year on November 11. It’s a national statutory holiday to honour Canada’s fallen military and RCMP veterans.
Today in Ottawa, Governor General Mary Simon was presented with the first poppy of the National Poppy Campaign during a ceremony at Rideau Hall.
BC Lieutenant Governor Wendy Cocchia will be presented with the first poppy of the Royal Canadian Legion BC/Yukon Command’s 2025 poppy campaign at a ceremony on October 21 at Government House in Victoria.
Funds raised in the annual poppy campaign support veterans, their families and dependents, seniors, education and Remembrance programs.
Thousands of volunteers engage in the campaign across the country.
Poppies will be available to the public beginning October 31, the first day of the National Poppy Campaign.
Various fundraising promotional items available through the Poppy Store bear the image of a poppy include luggage tags, lawn ornaments, ball caps, clothing, flags, mugs, wallets, shopping bags and door decorations.
Founded in 1925, the Legion is Canada’s largest Veteran support and community service organization.
