Artificial Intelligence (AI) is quickly becoming embedded into business and many aspects of society.

The enterprise artificial intelligence (AI) market is expected to increase to $440 billion by 2029 from $127 billion in 2024.

This is based on demand for high-performance computing and eagerness to embed AI agents throughout operations.

Success in this rapidly evolving market will ultimately depend on vendors’ ability to move beyond basic automation to deliver sophisticated reasoning and planning capabilities. This of course favours well-financed businesses.

Partnership in the AI ecosystem seems to be essential for maintaining strong go-to-market execution but also the reliability with which AI can be used by broader society.

Microsoft:

At the forefront of the transformation are Microsoft Corp. and Salesforce Inc., both of whom achieved “Elite” status in a comprehensive market analysis by Futurum Research that evaluated vendors across business value, product innovation, strategic vision, go-to-market execution, and ecosystem alignment.

Microsoft solidified its position through deep integration of its AI stack across familiar enterprise tools. The Copilot Studio and Azure AI Foundry platforms have been seamlessly woven into Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, and the Power Platform. This has allowed for an adoption advantage. The company showed particular strength in product innovation and business value delivery.

Salesforce made an equally impressive mark by pivoting boldly toward what it calls the “Agentic Enterprise” through its Agentforce 360 platform. The company’s strategic partnerships with leading AI providers, including OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic, combined with its focus on hyper-personalized customer experiences and ethical AI practices, earned it the highest ecosystem alignment score, the report concluded.

Google, IBM and more:

Google, IBM Corp., SAP, and ServiceNow Inc occupy the so-called “Leader” zone.

Google leveraged formidable financial resources and its Vertex AI Agent Engine, while IBM focused on hybrid cloud solutions through its watsonx platform. SAP’s Business AI strategy centers on its Joule assistant, and ServiceNow is aggressively positioning itself as an AI-first intelligent workflow automation platform.

AWS and Oracle Corp. are in the so-called Established Zone, maintaining strong positions but facing pressure to enhance their offerings. AWS is prioritizing multi-region redundancy following recent outages, while Oracle is leveraging unprecedented cloud revenue growth and strategic partnerships with AI leaders like OpenAI and Meta Platforms Inc.

Several critical trends are seen in the reshaping of enterprise AI. They includes the movement toward multi-agent collaboration, where autonomous AI agents can perceive their environments, make decisions, and act with minimal human intervention. This requires sophisticated orchestration capabilities to manage complex, multi-step business processes.

Data and context:

Data grounding and contextual awareness have become paramount. Much of what is produced by AI is still built on what was first programmed into the systems, and results are often variable in terms of accuracy.

Enterprises demand that AI agents access and reason over both structured and unstructured data in real-time, helping to avoid contextual error. This capability is essential for building trust and ensuring agents operate with high situational awareness, according to the report.

Governance:

For regulated industries, it’s common sense that robust governance frameworks should be considered as essential and non-negotiable.

Enterprises increasingly require comprehensive tools for bias detection, lineage tracking, policy adherence, and transparent monitoring. The emergence of what analysts call an AI Trust Layer has become a crucial differentiator, with vendors racing to demonstrate their commitment to secure, compliant AI deployments.
