Langford road conditions advisory prompted by lots of snow in forecast

Ahead of the pending snowfall warning tonight, drivers are advised to prepare and decide about being on the roads this evening.

Here are a few suggestions from City of Langford Engineering for your safety on snowy and icy roads, given the 5 to 10 cm snowfall in the forecast for this evening, December 29:

Park in your driveways and garages to better allow the City to clear your roads
Please refrain from abandoning vehicles in driving lanes
Drive Slow in Snow
Be prepared ahead of snowfalls – then you don’t have to leave your home!
Drive to your own comfort level

Advisory for the Malahat:

Heavy snow expected beginning this evening. Snowfall accumulation: 5 to 10 cm.

Locations: Vancouver Island, Southern Gulf Islands, Sunshine Coast, Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley – west and central.

Environment Canada particularly notes their snowfall warning for the Malahat (Highway 1) from Goldstream to Mill Bay.

Weather forecast Dec 29 overnight into Dec 30:

Environment Canada’s weather forecast for the Greater Victoria area for today December 29, overnight into Thursday December 30, is a mix of sun and cloud becoming cloudy this afternoon.

Winds northeast 30 km/h gusting to 50 becoming light early this afternoon. A high of -1°C. Wind chill -11 °C this morning and -6°C this afternoon. UV index 1 or low.

Tonight snow will be heavy at time: amount 5 to 10 cm. Wind becoming southeast 30 km/h late this evening. Low -5°C with temperature rising to -2°C by morning. Wind chill -13°C this evening and -7°C overnight.

The Thursday December 30 forecast shows cloudy with 40 percent chance of flurries. Wind up to 15 km/h. High zero. Wind chill -7°C in the morning.
