While parts of Langford city hall are still under restoration due to a major flood event, operations are now back to full service.
Damage was caused by sprinklers in the attic above the third floor of the building at 877 Goldstream Avenue.
- Finance, Planning, Building and Business Licencing are now temporarily operating from ground floor unit #117. That’s on the main level of the city hall building toward the rear of the parking lot.
- Administration, Bylaw, Parks and Engineering are open as usual on the second floor of city hall.
- Council and Committee meetings remain uninterrupted and will be held as scheduled on the third floor of City Hall in council chambers.
Repairs being done:
The city thanks everyone for their understanding and support.
Repairs are being done by Verity Construction and ServiceMaster Clean.
During restoration, signs are in place to direct residents seeking assistance from specific departments. Support is available by email at hello@langford.ca and phone at 250-478-7882.
Bad timing:
While there is no good time for water damage in a building, the major water damage incident happened on June 26 at the most inopportune of times — right at the end of June ahead of the July 2 property tax deadline.
The offices had to be closed on Thursday June 27 and most of Friday June 28 right ahead of the property tax deadline, following a contentious season of budget politics.
It’s possible some significant on-paper records were lost and possibly even some digital records. The City likely has effective data backup to retrieve most of what it needs. Insurance coverage commentary has not yet been stated.
