Election flashback:

Poliievre had lost his long-time Ottawa riding of Carleton in the 45th general federal election on April 28, 2025. A safe Conservative riding was found for him to run in for a by-election this summer, so he could return to the House of Commons as the Leader of the Official Opposition.

Kibble won the south Vancouver Island federal riding of Cowichan-Malahat-Langford in the April 2025 general election, one of a few MPs (Conservative and Liberal) to break the NDP stronghold on Vancouver Island.

Setting up after the election:

After a short House of Commons session in Ottawa in May and June, the first-time MP has spent the summer preparing his two constituency offices (one in Langford, one in Duncan) and meeting constituents around the large riding.

Kibble told Island Social Trends during his Langford office open house on August 6 that if Poilievre comes to visit Cowichan-Malahat-Langford that Kibble will be wanting to show the party leader the various infrastructure projects and economic development opportunities in this region.
