Missing person Joshua Bennett, 31, has been found dead in Langford.

His body was discovered in Glen Lake in Langford by a member of the public on Sunday March 31. West Shore RCMP announced today April 1 that they attended at Glen Lake around 4:45 pm on Sunday and found the reported human remains.

“With the assistance of the View Royal Fire Department the body of a male was recovered,” said West Shore RCMP media relations officer Cst. Nancy Saggar today. “Police have since identified the human remains as being missing person, Joshua Bennett.”

“Joshua Bennett’s family has been notified. Our deepest sympathies are with them at this time,” says Saggar. She says the file is still under investigation. “Although there were no obvious signs of foul play, investigators continue to work alongside the BC Coroners Service to determine what caused Joshua Bennett’s death,” said Saggar.

Bennett had been missing from the Langford area since March 9, with repeated calls to the public for anyone with information as to his whereabouts. Bennett was about six feet tall and weighed 160 pounds. He had black hair, brown eyes and was last seen wearing blue Levis jeans, black shoes and an olive green Volcom jacket. He was last seen on surveillance video walking in the industrial area near Langford Lanes shortly after 9:30 pm on March 9. He had reportedly been bowling with friends and told his girlfriend he would call a cab to take him to their friend’s house on Sooke Road at Ronald Road near the Luxton fairgrounds.

According to news reports, the last call on Bennett’s cellphone was to a cab company, but instead of waiting for a cab, family members believe he started to walk. Investigators had not been able to check the phone’s GPS co-ordinates because it had been turned off since about 9:40 pm that evening.

West Shore RCMP and the Langford Fire Department had used drones, divers in Glen Lake, canine teams, and search and rescue volunteers to scour the area. People searched the area around Langford Lanes in the days that followed Bennett’s absence.

[Update April 2, 2019] Josh Bennett’s father Al Bennett works at Westshore Parks & Recreation in Colwood. It’s been “pretty quiet” at the rec facility today. Bennett had a shift on Sunday, but since then has been attending to family issues after hearing from the RCMP.
