NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh will be officially sworn in as the Member of Parliament for Burnaby South, in Ottawa on Sunday March 17, 2019.  Many Canadians will be celebrating St Patrick’s Day that day, in a festive mood.

An NDP news release today said: “Singh is going to make history as the first racialized Leader of a federal party to have a seat in Parliament.”

The swearing-in will take place at 3:30 pm Eastern (12:30 pm Pacific), in the Wellington Building in downtown Ottawa.

Singh quite handily won the riding of Burnaby South on February 25 with 30% of the votes cast.

FINAL COUNT of the February 25, 2019 by-election in Burnaby South: Jagmeet Singh NDP 8,884 votes (39%); Richard T Lee LIBERAL 5,930 votes (26.0%); Jay Shin CONSERVATIVE 5,133 votes (22.5%); Laura-Lynn Thompson PEOPLE’S PARTY 2,420 votes (10.6%) | Total votes cast 22,776 of 76,204 registered electors (29.89%) not including electors who registered on election day.
