There was a residential structure fire on French Road South on Sunday afternoon, May 24.
It was “successfully contained” by Sooke Fire Rescue, supported by mutual aid partners. But based on photos there is nothing much left of the house.
Three occupants were safely evacuated, no injuries were reported.
Emergency crews responded to the structure fire call at approximately 4 pm yesterday, in the residential area just off Grant Road in the Otter Point Road area.
Three members of a family of four were home when the fire broke out and were safely evacuated, according to the news release issued today by the District of Sooke.
No injuries were reported to residents or responding personnel.
Initial information indicates the fire may have started in a greenhouse next to the home before spreading to the residence and several nearby trees. The cause remains under investigation. Crews are returning to the scene today and throughout the week to conduct further investigation.
The displaced family of four is receiving support from Emergency Support Services as needed.
Emergency responders:
Responding crews included Sooke Fire Rescue, Metchosin Fire Department, Otter Point Fire Department, and East Sooke Fire Department, with Sooke RCMP and BC Ambulance also attending.
Crews remained on scene for several hours to fully extinguish the fire, monitor hot spots, and secure the area.
“We are incredibly grateful for the rapid response of our crews and mutual aid partners,” said Deputy Chief Chris McCrea.
“We also extend our sincere thanks to the surrounding neighbours for their cooperation, patience, and support while crews worked to secure the area.” Sooke Fire Rescue has notified the Office of the Fire Commissioner.
