Today the first significant atmospheric river of this beginning of the winter season called for umbrellas and more attentive driving.
Heavy rains also contributed to some power outages on South Vancouver Island today.
- In Duncan there were 1,678 BC Hydro customers without power due to equipment failure and about 1,850 in various locations due to trees down across wires. Power was off in the afternoon and back on by evening.
- In an area broadly described as Langford, Highlands, Saanich and View Royal there were 1,100 customers without power in the afternoon, restored by evening.
- In Saanich five customers were without power on Maplewood Road due to a tree down.
Power outages were more considerable a few days ago across parts of Greater Victoria when strong winds contributed to more damage to trees and more challenging repair conditions.
Wind tonight:
Tonight winds will pick up southwest 40 km/h gusting to 60 km/h, with gusts of 60 to 80 km/p near the Juan de Fuca Strait early this evening. By midnight winds will relax down to gusts of 20 to 40 km/h and continuing into Tuesday morning.
Rainy weather all week:
Other than a slight reprieve with cloudy skies tomorrow morning, the Environment Canada forecast for the Greater Victoria area shows steady rainfall is expected for the rest of this week — but with slightly above-seasonal day and evening temperatures.
