We are now past the winter solstice and most Christmas celebrations are done. The 2025 new year is nearly here.
The Island Social Trends office will be closed December 31 through January 2, back in full swing on Friday January 3.
If you care to look back on a tumultuous year in BC politics and other realms, here are the links to the Top News Stories of 2024.
Preview of 2025:
There is much more news to come in 2025.
Of course will be covering daily, local and government news (local, provincial and federal) including elections. Be sure to bookmark and visit our Canadian Federal Election 2025 section.
We are a full news service, covering ‘stuff that matters’ in business and economy, politics, education, health, environment and sustainability, food security, emergency preparedness, and community.
One of our key specialties is feature interviews with newsmakers.
Visit IslandSocialTrends.ca anytime for our political and economic news, insights and analysis.
As well, there is the print edition available for free in coffee shops, rec centres and libraries around the west shore region.

You are helping to preserve news of the region! Island Social Trends intentionally builds an archive about the west shore region and news that impacts lives and lifestyle on Vancouver Island.
Permanent archive:
Island Social Trends (IST) was launched during the pandemic in 2020. The online portal at IslandSocialTrends.ca is a searchable digital archive.
The print (and PDF) edition of Island Social Trends is permanently archived at the Sooke Region Museum (including our precursor publications MapleLine Magazine 2008-2010, Sooke Voice News 2011-2013, and West Shore Voice News 2014-2020).
We take very seriously our role to document the news of this region in a way that can be retrieved with context in the years ahead.
