Pitbull attacks people in Colwood home

Saturday, November 3 ~ COLWOOD.

Early this morning, at 12:30 am November 3, West Shore RCMP and BC Ambulance Service were called to a residence in the 3000-block of Pickford Rd in Colwood regarding a dog attack in which four people were found to be injured.

West Shore RCMP says that emergency responders discovered 13 people (including adults and children) had barricaded themselves inside the residence following an attack by a large 140-pound pit bull.

The dog’s owners managed to secure the dog inside a bedroom at the residence but sustained serious injuries including bite wounds.

The Capital Regional District (CRD) Animal Control Officer attended, and with assistance of police, safely removed the animal. A review of the attack and the dog’s history of aggression will be conducted by CRD Animal Control,” says Cpl. Chris Dovell of the West Shore RCMP.

Following the dog attack, four injured people were taken to hospital for treatment.

One injured and heavily intoxicated male was arrested by police after removing his shirt and attempting to fight with officers. The Ministry of Children and Families were also contacted to review the safety of the children who were fortunately unharmed during the attack.

“CRD Animal Control Officers have seized the pitbull who had been recently adopted by the family as a rescue animal.  The attack started during some rough housing between two intoxicated adult male guests at the party where it appears the dog was bumped into and became aggressive.
