Times have changed and so have the government’s circumstances as well as economic conditions, but the Local Government Leadership Academy (LGLA) is turning to advice from former BC cabinet ministers for dealing with government.

This perhaps indicates a belief that governments maintain standard operations regardless of external and political circumstances.

Delegates attending this year’s LGLA Forum in Richmond in March will hear from three former cabinet ministers on “how to best engage with the Province on local issues”.

The panel called Engaging with the Province: Observations from the Balcony will feature:

  • Carole James (past NDP Minister of Finance and Deputy Premier, in office 2003 to 2020),
  • Terry Lake (past BC Liberal Minister of Health, in office 2009 to 2017) and
  • Mike Bernier (past BC Liberal Minister of Education from 2015 to 2017, then in opposition to 2024).

“This session will provide food for thought for local elected leaders devising engagement strategies for the newly elected Provincial Government,” says an LGA event descriptive, given the “combined experience both in cabinet and opposition”.

The talk “will be sure to provoke insights for local elected leaders”.
